Right this is a sample of my first beat, its not complete yet because im waiting for feedback from the artist too see if he
likes the direction its taking. Its suppossed to be a hip hop love track,
Can you guys tell me honestly what you think of it.

Cheers

I don't think it has a hip-hop feeling to it.
But it's pretty nice, since it's your first beat.

Ok scratch that there on my myspace now thats alot easier.

classical love is the first beat i made the fella i did it for wanted most of the hiphop taken out so its more classical lovey then anything else.

The second beat is called hit the track running, this was made for the same rapper but this one doest really have a chorus its a progressive fast paced beat that hes gonna murder hopefully lol

Anyways these are my first 2 beats ever so any sort of comments would be great so cheers fellas Smile

The hit the track running one sounds like its in 3/4 not 3/4 time and the drums are too mashed together and it's like there's no real basis. Which is a shame because the actual melody used is pretty nice. Bit too repetitive too.

Classical Love.. hmm.. 1 the bass doesn't match the melody at all, it's not even the same key. It sounds pointless without a good kick or snare/clap tbh theres not much too it. The melody again is ok, but some chords are off.

Just tbh work on structure and drums, because they are letting you down on these two pieces.

Cheers edd that exactly what i was looking for, i changed 'hit the track' now so it kicks in a bit earlier, i think its sounding better now, also one more question for you lot.

Atm im using my laptop keyboard as a midi keyboard, is there much more of an advanatge to using a real midi keyboard over my laptop's keyboard to compose a melody? the reason im asking is because i am thinking of buying a midi tommorrow but dont want to waste money if its not much more different than using the laptops keyboard?

A real midi keyboard has a better response time, has more of a range, you can hit more than 3 keys at a time without it all sticking, meaning you can connect more notes and make a deeper melody. Having a midi keyboard is always much better.

BUT with that said, i'm like you, i don't have a midi keyboard, i use Bome's Mouse Keyboard.

And the beat to me is still a bit fucked really, i just don't like the time it's in, i don't think i could find a flow to it at all.

A simple, boom boom bap does justice sometimes man.
